Jean Nestares Biography

Jean Nestares has a rich and diverse career inspired by her artistic father. She expresses her creative talent in several mediums such as painting, writing, illustrating but her first love has always been photography. Her early work was distinguished by The Minister of Culture of Spain and she won Spain’s Kodak Trophy. Since then, she has showed her photography and painting work both in New York and abroad culminating with her latest solo exhibit "Multiplex" at the Soho Photo Gallery in TriBeca. Movements, people and the vigorous pulse of different cities have always been her inspiration. This interest in movement is a side effect of her professional training in Cinematography at NYU and working for years as a director and producer in a television station. Her experiments in making still photography appear as if its alive and moving marries cinematographic principles with high quality traditional non manipulated photography.

This diversity of backgrounds and experiences gives her work such depth and power. New York but also Paris, Ibiza, Milan, Madrid, Caracas, Mexico City, and Chicago have been her home and research ground. In the midst of her painting and photography work, Jean wrote and illustrated two Children books. Her first creation, Taking Flight Escape from the Zoo of St. Jean Cap Ferrat, was awarded the Golden Scribe Award. The illustrations are in watercolors and draw on the beauty of the South of France. The Art of Falconry, also illustrated in watercolors is based on her personal experience of falconry in Scotland. These two books belong to the traditional family of bedtime stories and have shown another facet of her versatility and talent.

Now back in New York City, she is experimenting with different techniques in photography and other art forms. With three successful shows in New York under her belt as well as several in Paris, Madrid and the French Riviera, Jean looks forward to push her inspiration even further by exploring alternative printing processes and continue showing her work in New York and internationally.
