Everything flows... 'Ever-newer waters flow on those who step into the same river.' According to the Greek philosopher Heraclitus, there is no permanent reality except the reality of change. Permanence is just an illusion of the senses. This same thought inspired Jean Nestares' work. Jean transforms images through the multiples prisms of the water flow.

Jean Nestares at Curator's Voice Art Project Gallery - Art Basel season show 2013-2014

I have been thinking about new ways to create pauses and silences where breath is held in my artistic world that has always been inspired by movement. In this series of natural images, untouched by any manipulation, I create the sensation of a double dimension by superposing images on fabric and paper. My photographic Dream Chasers will open new windows into yourselves: through them, you will be able to travel further than the images that first impact you and see what your inner self is capable of seeing, you will feel the essence of the dream. Take this journey through my Dream Chasers.

Multiplex by Jean Nestares during Art Basel 2012

Re-invent the images into mixed narratives and delirious illusions. Unseen scenarios and hybrid characters chart the new visual parameters where reality, as it is, is no longer the main focus. In the works of Jean Nestares, there is a visual shock of dislocated figures hiding metaphors and ideological messages towards society, referencing critical issues of our times.

Multiplex by Jean Nestares

Movements, people and the vigorous pulse of different cities have always been my source inspiration. This interest in movement is a side effect of my professional training in Cinematography at NYU and working for years as a director and producer in a television station. My experimentation in making still photography appear as if its alive and moving marries cinematographic principles with high quality traditional non manipulated photography.

This diversity of backgrounds and experiences gives my work such depth and power. "Multiplex is an assembly of photographic images that is freely interpretable by each viewer. Through different transmutations, I reinvent and give pictures a new energy and create new situations: the spectator is thus offered a different vision of the city."

Panta Rei by Jean Nestares

PANTA REI: Everything flows... "Ever-newer waters flow on those who step into the same river." According to the Greek philosopher Heraclites, there is no permanent reality except the reality of change. Permanence is just an illusion of the senses. This same thought inspired Jean Nestares' upcoming exhibitions to be held in New York City in 2010 and Seoul, London and Paris in 2011.

Jean's previous work was based on cities, lights, movement and people, producing a mix of hectic yet poetic beauty. Today, by capturing ephemeral moments trough video and photography, Jean transforms images through the prism of the water flow. Figures float freely without being trapped in a sensation of perpetual metamorphosis.

Jean's upcoming New York City exhibit is a peek on her new theme. "This time in New York I will only show photography, big format watercolors and my new series of monotypes on canvas". Movement and reflections are common elements with her previous work. "Movement is always at the heart of my inspiration. I enjoy recreating one subject in different medias, formats, colors and backgrounds as it always brings new meanings to the original image."
